Running through the public areas on Decks 4 and 5 is the Royal Esplanade (above). Done in a sophisticated contemporary style, this thoroughfare presents a much different atmosphere
than the Royal Promenades on other Royal Caribbean ships. On Deck 5, the thoroughfare continues with the Via (below). This is an even more elegant space leading to the back of the ship. |
Anthem of the Seas is the second ship built in Royal Caribbean's Quantum class. However, in many respects Anthem is a unique ship. Her predecessor, Quantum of the Seas, was redeployed to the China and significantly altered to be in tune with the Chinese market. The third ship in the class, Ovation of the Seas, also initially the Asia market resembles the altered Quantum than Anthem.
In addition, Anthem is different than the other ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. Because of the sophistication and refinement of her staterooms and public spaces, people often comment that she resembles a Celebrity brand ship more than a Royal Caribbean ship. Indeed, she does not have such signature Royal Caribbean features as a Royal Promenade, an ice rink or the Viking Crown Lounge. However, the quality of her construction, the thoughtful décor, the dynamic use of technology, the strength of her dining and entertainment offerings, make her an up-market ship. This does not mean that there is no room for fun on Anthem. The North Star observation capsule rising above the ship is a thrilling experience. The Seaplex offers an array of amusement park activities. There is a giant statue of a whimsical giraffe (named "Gigi") gazing over the starboard side. But while such Wow features draw much attention and provide fodder for attempts to write off the ship as frivolous, it would be a mistake to conclude that this is the atmosphere throughout the ship. Thus, Anthem provides a different cruise experience. Prior to the Quantum class, there were already several types of cruise experience under the Royal Caribbean umbrella ranging from the traditional style Vision/Radiance class ships to the large style Voyager/Freedom class to the multi-dimensional Oasis class. While different, all are unified by a common Royal Caribbean approach which is relaxed yet first-string. Anthem is yet another approach. |
Anthem has an extensive and varied collection of contemporary art. (See separate article).

Rather than one big desk, Guest Services has several
small stations where guests can interact with the ship's staff (above left). The Shore Excursions Office (above right) has computer stations where guests can book tours in the various ports. During certain hours, there are staff members present to assist and give advice. The Next Cruise Office (right) has live staff to meet with the guests to advice them about and book future voyages on RCI, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises. In early 2016, the Next Cruise Office changed places with the Art Gallery and is now located on the Via near the entrance to 270. |
