Utopia of the Seas profile
SUMMARY
|
Utopia of the Seas is a very large cruise ship. Indeed, she is one of the largest. Doing a schedule of four and five day cruises, she is geared toward younger cruisers who like to party.
The sixth ship in Royal Caribbean's highly popular Oasis class, Utopia's sister ships include: Wonder of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas. Veritable cities at sea, the interiors of the Oasis class ships are divided into seven neighborhoods, each with its own theme. The major public areas are divided into the Royal Promenade (an interior mall); the Boardwalk (a carnival-like atmosphere); Central Park (an open space with live trees and an up-market atmosphere) and the sports decks (pools, slides, surfing simulators etc.). There are three large entertainment areas – the theater, the aqua-theater and the skating rink – plus numerous bars, lounges, shops and dining venues distributed throughout these ships. If there were not already more than one could do during an average cruise, Royal has added new features and attractions with each new Oasis class ship. Among the additions to Utopia of the Seas is the Royal Railway – an entertainment/dining venue in which passengers dine in the dining car of a train from the Old West while video screens simulate a train journey. There is also the new Pesky Parrot bar and the Spare Tire, a food truck that is parked poolside. Solarium Suites mounted above the navigation bridge are additions to the Oasis class' extensive range of accommodations. Immediately upon entering service in 2024, Utopia was assigned a schedule of short cruises centering upon calls at Royal's private destination in the Bahamas, Coco Cay. This was an unusual move in that doing short cruises has traditionally been the role of older ships. However, Royal hopes to attract younger cruisers who do not have the time for traditional long voyages by showing off state-of-the-art cruising. In any event, partying is encouraged. Utopia is also distinguished from her sisters in that she is the first Oasis class ship to be powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), which is viewed as more-environmentally friendly than traditional fuels used on cruise ships. |
