SUMMARY
|
Le Bougainville is a mega-yacht offering a French-style luxury cruise experience. Contemporary in décor, the ship has an intimate atmosphere that is shared with a small number of passengers. She has a very high passenger to crew ratio, a hallmark of a luxury environment.
Aimed primarily at the French market, the ship flies the French flag. French is the offical language onboard but English is widely spoken by the officers and crew. The public areas of the ship include the features that one would expect to find on a contemporary cruise ship such as bars and lounges, a theater, a shop, a spa, fitness center, salon, a library,a doctor's office and a sun deck. All of the cabins have balconies. These accommodations also feature five-star amenities an contemporary decor. Le Bougainville honors the French tradition of fine dining. While breakfast and lunch are done buffet style in the main dining room, dinner is a four-course waiter-served meal. Guests also have the alterntaive of the Lido Grill restaurant, which offers outdoor dining weather-permitting. Afternoon tea is served in the Panoramic Lounge. Usually, small ships are devoid of wow-factor features. Not so with Le Bougainville. Situated below the waterline is the Blue Eye Lounge. This feature lets passengers gaze out at what is going on under the sea through portholes. In addition, live video of the undersea world is projected onto the walls, complete with sound picked up through hydrophones. If you are looking for physical activity, the ship has a retractable marina platform from which guests can swim in the ocean and indulge in various watersports. There is also a more traditional swimming pool. Le Bougainville was the third ship built in Ponant's Explorer class. She has five sister ships: Le Laperouse; Le Champlain; Le Dumont-d'Urville, Le Bellot, Le Jacques Cartier. Like Le Bougainville, all are named after French exploerers. Le Bougainville's hull was strengthened during construction in order to allow her to explore icy waters. The ship carries a fleet of Zodiacs for exploring less developed ports of call. |
