Norwegian Viva profile
SUMMARYNorwegian Viva is a large, mass-market cruise ship. It offers a relaxed vacation experience based on the cruise line's philosophy of allowing the passengers to design their own cruise experience.
Viva is the second ship built in Norwegian's Prima class. There are six ships planned for this class. While the shape of the bow may bring to mind ships from the turn of the 20th century, it actually reflects the latest thinking on hydrodynamic efficiency. Although slightly smaller than Norwegian's Breakaway and Breakaway-Plus class ships, Viva is still quite large and offers a wide-range of amenities and features. For example, the ship brings forward the outdoor promenade concept begun with Norwegian Breakaway but expands it so as to include more features including two infinity pools. Guests in a hurry to get to the promenade from the upper decks may consider taking the slides that twist and turn down each side of the ship. Other action features include a go-cart raceway that runs through the ship's funnel. There is also an aqua park and more conventional features such as a swimming pool, a fitness center, a jogging track, a basketball court and a mini-golf course. However, Viva dispenses with some features of earlier NCL ships including a rock-climbing wall, and outdoor movie screens. Like her predecessors, in addition to the two complimentary main dining room, Viva has several specialty restaurants including such NCL favorites as Cagney's (steakhouse) and Le Bistro (French-inspired). However, this class also has some different venues including Onda by Scarpetta (Italian), Palomar (Mediterranean) and Coco's (“chocolate cuisine”). There are also several complimentary venues in addition to the buffet (Surfside Cafe) such as a food hall called Indulge, which has a variety of stations as well as indoor and outdoor seating. Accommodations range from single-occupancy cabins to suites in the luxury Haven area. The Haven is a ship-within-a-ship concept that features 24-hour butler service, two exclusive bars, an exclusive sun deck and its own restaurant. The interior décor of the ship is contemporary, with much use of muted earth tones and sophisticated lighting. This gives Viva a different look from earlier classes of Norwegian ships. Along the same lines, while several of the venues utilize names familiar from past NCL ships they are often expanded and/or have different decoraion. |
