OVERVIEW
NORWEGIAN SPIRIT began life as the SUPERSTAR LEO for Norwegian's former parent company Star Cruises. However, in 2004, the ship was moved to Norwegian. Spirit's decor reflects her Asian roots. There is an interesting collection of Asian art and most of the public rooms reflect an Asian influence. This consistent theme helps to give Spirit a unified feel not found on many cruise ships. The atmosphere is upscale but at the same time friendly and warm. Freestyle Cruising is Norwegian's trademark approach to cruising. It askews the traditional approach in favor of a system that allows the passenger to select from a variety of options in order to design his or her own vacation. Since Spirit was not built for Norwegian, it was not built with Freestyle Cruising in mind. However, the ship has adapted well to the Freestyle approach offering most of the features found on Norwegian's larger ships. Spirit is the smallest ship in the Norwegian fleet. Yet, at 75,000 gross tons, she is larger than many of the great ocean liners of the past. This allows her to have many of the features found in her larger fleetmates. Thus, it can be said that Spirit is a large ship with a small ship feel. |
