SUMMARY

 Norwegian Aqua is a large, mass-market cruise ship preenting a casual resort experience. Family-oriented, the ship attracts quite a few families with children but passengers also include couples and singles. The ship is primarily patronized by North Americans although there are often some Europeans aboard.

This ship was the first ship in Norwegian's Prima Plus class. She is similar in outline and overall appearance to her Prima predecessors but she is substantially larger than Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. There have also been some changes in the features. For example, the go-cart track has been eliminated and the main pool area expanded. The change in size and the change in location of various features allow for more space per passenger. However, there are still complaints of crowding.

The most heralded new feature on Aqua was the Aqua Slide Coaster – a combination roller coaster and water slide that runs along the port side of the ship. Guests sit in a sled that wisks them through a watery tunnel at speeds over 30 miles an hour. The tunnel comes close to and almost touches some of the balconies along the way. The ship also has “The Drop” tunnel that can take passengers from the top decks to the outdoor promenade.

On the outdoor promenade are two infinity pools, hot tubs and outdoor seating for some of the specialty restaurants.

Like previous NCL ships, Aqua offers a large number of dining venues. These include complimentary venues and specialty restuarants. The latter include such Norwegian stalwarts as Cagney's steakhouse and Le Bistro (French cusine) as well as a new Thai restaurant. In the Food Hall, guests have a choice of a variety of foods. These are ordered via a tablet and brought to the table. However, what you can order depends upon where you are sitting.

Along the same lines, Aqua has several bars and lounges including the traditional observation lounge and a new wine bar concept that debuted on Aqua.

There is little in the way of intellectual activities on Aqua. Instead, the emphasis is on physical relaxation. Among other things, guests can play sports on the LED-equipped sports floor or play mini-golf with a ball that keeps score. In the theater, there is a tribute to Prince alternating with a show about Fleeetwood Mac's album “Rumors.” Aqua has a large spa tht includes two pools and a waterfall.

Aqua has the usual assortment of passenger cabins - inside, ocean view and balcony. In addition, the ship has two exclusive zones. There are 73 solo-occupancy cabins with exclusive access to a lounge that acts as a meeting spot and which serves snacks over the course of the day. At the other end of the spectrum, Aqua has the Haven that includes a variety of suits, its own lounge and exclusive luxury restaurant.

The interior décor of Aqua has been described as more subdued than that of prior NCL ships and more similar to the ships of other major cruise lines.
