SUMMARY
|
Mein Schiff 2 is a large cruise ship offering resort style cruises. She is primarily targeted at the German market.
One might well think that this ship was the second ship in the series of Mein Schiff cruise ships. Afterall, her sisters and near-sisters are named Mein Schiff 1, Mein Schiff 3, Mein Schiff 4, Mein Schiff 5, Mein Schiff 6, and Mein Schiff 7, However, this ship is actually newer than Mein Schiff 6. The explanation for this lies is in the history of the TUI Cruises. The line started out with two former Celebrity cruises ships that were renamed Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2. The two ships proved popular and so TUI ordered a new build cruise ship that they named Mein Schiff 3. Continuing the series, Four, Five and Six followed. Two more ships originally designated Mein Schiff 7 and Mein Schiff 8 were then ordered. However, before these last two ships were delivered, TUI decided that the two smaller original ships would be a better fit for TUI's sister line Marealla Cruises and they left the TUI fleet. Their departure left a gap in the sequence of names. So TUI renamed the two new ships after the two original ships. The new Mein Schiff 2 includes a completely covered arena, which has a sports court and a rock climbing wall. The 438-metre running track is significantly longer than on the previous ships. There is a 1,000 seat theater and a 300-set concert hall. Among other venues, Mein Schiff 2 has an art studio. Mein Schiff 2 carries forward many of the popular features of the previous Mein Schiff new builds including the glass-enclosed "Diamond" area at the stern of the ship. There are 12 dining venues and 17 bars and lounges. These venues cover a wide variety of cuisines and dining styles. The ship features an "all-inclusive" approach to cruising in which gratuities, most of the restaurants and most drinks are included in the cruise fare. German is the onboard language. |
