Majestic Princess profile
SUMMARY
|
Majestic Princess is a large mass market cruise ship. The cruise experience is more sophisticated than some other lines but still relaxed and casual. Her interior decor is contemporary but tasteful. Majestic Princess is family-friendly with facilities for young cruisers
This ship was the third ship to be built in Princess's Royal class, which also includes Royal Princess , Regal Princess, Sky Princess, Enchanted Princess, and Discovery Princess. (P&O Cruises' Britannia is also a sister but has a substantially different interior). Originally, Majestic Princess was intended for the Chinese market. However, in her relatively brief career thus far, Majestic Princess has sailed in Europe, Australia, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Because she was intended for the Chinese market, Majestic Princess was an exception to the Princess' philosophy that all the ships in a given class should be identical. For example, Majestic Princess was built with karaoke suites. It also debuted a specialty restaurant featuring Cantonese cuisine. However, Majestic Princess has much the same features as her sisters. The heart of the ship is the multi-story atrium "The Piazza". Entertainment venues include the Royal Theater, a casino, Princess Live (a television studio) and numerous bars and lounges as well as the outdoor "Movies Under The Stars." The ship has three main dining rooms. There are also several specialty restaurants including such Princess traditions as the Crown Grill (steakhouse) and Sabatini's (fine Italian dining) as well as more recent traditions such as Alfredo's Pizzeria and The Catch By Rudi, (seafood). There are also a number of complimentary venues including The International Cafe (additional charge for specialty coffees), the Trident Grill (hamburgers) and Prego Pizza. Outside, Majestic Princess has four pools plus a number of hot tubs. There is also the luxurious adults-only Sanctuary, which is extra-tariff. Inside, there is a substantial spa. There is also a Sky Walk, which takes guests beyond the sides of the ship and over the ocean. Unlike most recent cruise ships, Majestic Princess has a traditional main propulsion system. Four diesel engines provide electricity to two motors, each of which turns a propellor shaft. This enables Majestic Princess to have a service speed of 21 knots and a maximum speed of 23 knots. The engines also provide the electricity for the other nautical equipment such as the bow thrusters as well as for the ship's hotel. |
