CELEBRITY REFLECTION
PHOTO TOUR AND COMMENTARY CONTENTS |
he Grand Foyer (above), is the ship's lobby and crossroads. It lies just forward of the central
atrium that rises up from Deck 4 to Deck 15. The design for the Grand Foyer was inspired by the notion of a spring unwinding and releasing energy. This is reflected in the shape of the flowing staircase and the motifs in the fabrics and furniture of the room. |
OVERVIEWCelebrity Reflection is the fifth and final ship in Celebrity's Solstice class of ships. This highly successful class of ships and also includes Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox,
Celebrity Eclipse and Celebrity Silhouette. These ships were designed to fulfill Celebrity's slogan: “Modern Luxury.” They are relatively large ships but their passenger capacity has been limited so that they are spacious rather than crowded. They are contemporary rather than traditional but a great deal of attention has been paid to the décor and art work on these ships so that they are visually appealing. Attention to detail has also been paid to quality, not just in the technical and physical properties of the ships but also in such things as service and dining. They are elegant but yet relaxed ships. Celebrity Reflection carries forward the direction and many of the concepts that led the prior ships in this class to be award winners. However, Reflection is not a mere cookie-cutter reproduction of her sisters. She is a the largest of the five ships, sporting an additional deck. This is in large part due to the addition of 80 more cabins than her sisters. To absorb the resulting additional passengers the main restaurants and entertainment venues were increased in capacity. As a result, the passenger flow and per passenger space has not been noticeably affected. Reflection also debuted new venues including a conference center and a new game room. Other venues, including the Sky Observation Lounge and the Sunset Bar were redesigned. Others, such as the Quasar nightclub that were on the earlier ships disappeared. Still, the cruise experience on Reflection is very much a Solstice class cruise experience. It is a premium product that appeals to more sophisticated tastes. It is more cultured than action-oriented. Yet, at the same time, it is not stuffy. |
Midway up the atrium is a sculpture by Bert Rodriguez that includes two trees. Underneath the central pot is a metallic
sculpture of a tree. On top is a live tree. A live tree is a signature element of the atrium in each of the Solstice class ships |
According to Celebrity, "Celebrity Reflection, like the Solstice Class ships before her, is a museum at sea." This is no idle boast as there are 6,059 works of art on Reflection. Some of these works were previously displayed on Celebrity Summit, Celebrity Constellation and Celebrity Infinity. However, there are many works that were purchased for this ship including 491 that were commissioned for Celebrity Reflection.
The theme of the collection is "The Seductiveness of Reflection" and it "investigates the effect of art via the physical properties of reflective materials as well as the more subtle act of reflection." For the most part, the works are contemporary in style and include works by established artists as well as up and coming artists. In addition to paintings, photographs and sculptures, there are several large installations that occupy entire rooms. |
