Celebrity Apex profile
SUMMARY
Celebrity Apex is the second ship in Celebrity Cruises' Edge class. The first ship in the class was the near-identical sister Celebrity Edge.
The Edge class ships have a distinctive profile. In some ways it recalls the straight bow ships that plyed the seas at the beginning of the 20th century. But in other ways, the ships are quite non-traditional. For example, the “Magic Carpet” on the ship's starboard side is like an elevator on an aircraft carrier, moving a tenis-court size section of deck up and down the ship's side. When it is at the top level, it is part of a specialty restaurant. When it is at water level, it serves as a disembarkation platform. At first glance, there also seems to be an absence of traditional cruise ship balconies. However, this does not mean that Apex is sealed off from the outdoors. Many of the staterooms actually incorporate what would be the balcony area on more traditional ships into the cabin. A large window can be opened so that the cabin becomes open air. Apex is a further evolution of Celebrity's “modern luxury” luxury experience in a large ship. She has an array of dining venues, an all-suite area known as “The Retreat” and two-story “Edge Villas” with their own plunge pools. Also, building upon the lawn areas of Celebrity's Solstice class ships, Apex has its own a garden. Celebrity took delivery of Apex on March 27, 2020. Her maiden voyage was scheduled to take place shortly thereafter. However, this was at the height of the Covid pandemic when most of the world including the cruise industry were in lockdown. As a result, Apex did not enter service until June 2021. |
