Glass elevators continue to run up and down the forward side of the atrium as they did when the ship was Carnival
Destiny. However, they now have further to go reflecting the additional partial deck that was added during the transformation.

OVERVIEWCarnival Destiny was transformed into Carnival Sunshine during a 49-day drydock refit in 2013. The project cost Carnival Cruise Lines $155 million. The ship that emerged from the refit bears little resemblance to the one that went in. Even the ship's silhouette changed, reflecting the expansion of several decks and the addition of a partial deck. 182 new cabins were added as a result of this expansion. Inside the transformation was even more complete. Sunshine has the look of a contemporary hotel with a light, subdued décor similar to that of Carnival Breeze. There was nothing left of the extravagant fantasy land that had characterized the ship before. In addition, the public areas had a new layout with a series of new venues. All of the passenger cabins were refurbished. Technical changes to reduce fuel consumption an to make the ship more environmentally friendly were also undertaken. The result was a different ship, hence the new name. Interestingly, when people onboard speak about the Destiny, they tend to speak about her as if she were another ship. While the transformation is remarkable, the bottom line for vacationers is what type of cruise experience does the Sunshine offer? The answer is that she provides an up-to-date version of the Carnival product similar to those offered on Carnival's most recent ships. While she is not as big as Carnival Magic or Carnival Breeze, she does have versions of almost all the bars, lounges and specialty restaurants of Carnival's latest ships plus some additional concepts. |

The artwork on Sunshine is primarily tropical scenes done in
bright Caribbean colors. These works complement the light earth tones of the public areas. Overall, the feel is very much like an upscale contemporary hotel. It is an altogether different style than that which decorated the ship when she was Carnival Destiny. Only with considerable searching can you find items from the ship's past life. One example is the display of plaques given to the ship as Carnival Destiny.

The Shore Excursions Desk is also in the lobby. Like
the Guest Services Desk, it has a new look. It provides information on ports-of-call and shore excursions and sells shore excursions.

The Guest Services Desk is open 24-hours and
performs the functions performed in a hotel by the reception desk. It is a center for information and the primary interface between the guests and management. It is located in the lobby at the base of the Sunshine Atrium. 
The Future Cruise Desk is on the Promenade on
Deck 5. It provides information about Carnival cruises and the line's loyalty program (left). |
