CARNIVAL CELEBRATION

PROFILE
Carnival Celebration cruise ship

SUMMARY

Carnival Celebration is a large mass market ship providing a resort-style cruise experience. The ship is geared towards families and young adults seeking a fun-in-the sun vacation at an affordable price.

Names after Carnival's 1987 ship, Celebration, this ship was the second in Carnival Cruise Line's Excel class. Her sisters are Mardi Gras and Carnival Jubilee, which were also named after previous Carnival ships. Inasmuch as the Excel class is a subclass of Carnival Corporation's Excellence class, Carnival Celebration also has near-sisters sailing for other Carnival Corp brands including AIDAnova, Costa Smeralda and P&O Cruises' Arvia.

Like her sisters, Carnival Celebration is powered by liquified natural gas (LNG) rather than diesel fuel. This is a cleaner burning fuel and thus is regarded as more environmentally friendly.

At over 180,000 gross tons, Carnival Celebration is a very large ship and she can accommodate more than 6,600 passengers. This means that at full capacity she is serving almost the same number of passengers as Royal Caribbean's Oasis class ships. However, the Oasis class ships are considerably larger than Celebration and thus there is less space per passenger on Celebration.

The ship is divided into six zones, each with its own theme.

Carnival Celebration carries forward many of Carnival's most popular attractions. For example, she has a Cloud 9 Spa, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Guy's Burger Joint, Bonsai Sushi, Punchliners Comedy Club, the Serenity adults only retreat area and Waterworks, a large waterpark with water slides. The Bolt roller coaster, which premiered on Mardi Gras, offers thrills on self-propelled carts. Many of these popular concepts have been enhanced. Borrowing an idea from sister brand AIDA, the Center Stage theater is part of the atrium.

There are also new concepts on Carnival Celebration including the Latitudes bar, which has virtual windows that can display scenery from all over the world. Drinks appropriate to the scenery are on offer. The Golden Jubilee bar celebrates Carnival Cruise Line's history with a retro décor and artifacts from previous Carnival ships. In partnership with the Kennedy Space Center, Carnival has developed a program for children based on space exploration. Adding to the extensive line up of dining offerings, is Emeril's Bistro 1397, a specialty restaurant developed by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse.
