Arvia cruise ship profile
SUMMARY
Arvia entered service as the largest cruise ship specifically commissioned for the British cruise market.
This is not a conservative British cruise ship like fleetmate Aurora or former fleetmate Oriana. Rather, Arvia is a cutting edge contemporary cruise ship. She features such non-traditional attractions as a ropes course, a swim-up bar and the first rum distillery at sea. Entertainment includes aerial performances and a West End style theater production. The ship provides the British market with features formerly found primarily on American-style cruise ships. The ship has some 20 dining venues and eight bars. While some carry names familiar to P&O cruisers, there are a number of new venues including the 6th Street Diner (an American-style diner) and Green & Co. (sushi and plant-based meals). Some dining venues are complimentary while others are extra-tariff. Arvia is one of a series of cruise ships built by Carnival Corporation for its various subsidiary cruise lines. Consequently, not only is Arvia the sister ship to P&O Cruises' Iona but she is a near sister to ships in other cruise lines including: AIDAnova,, AIDAcosma, Costa Smeralda, Costa Toscana, Carnival Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubile. This class of ship utilizes liquified natural gas for power, which is more environmentally-friendly than traditional fuels. |
